Phillip Futures CEO is named CEO of the Year at the FOW and Global Investor Asia Capital Markets Awards 2019
SINGAPORE – Thursday 26 September 2019 – Phillip Futures is pleased to announce that its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Teyu Che Chern has been named ‘Chief Executive Officer of the Year 2019’ at the FOW and Global Investor Asia Capital Markets Awards 2019.
The event was held on 25 September 2019 at the Marina Mandarin, Singapore. FOW (Futures & Options World) is the futures arm of Global Investor Group, with a market-leading portfolio of events across the globe to explore what new markets have to offer and to find out which exchanges, banks, brokers and technology firms are leading the way in the markets. The FOW and Global Investor Asia Capital Markets Awards are held annually to honour outstanding professionals and companies in the Asian futures industry. Winners are decided by a distinguished panel of industry veterans.
On winning the award, Mr Teyu said, “I am humbled and honoured. I am grateful to the shareholders of PhillipCapital Group for providing opportunities, clients and exchange partners for showing support and colleagues for their faith in me.”
Mr Teyu started his career in Phillip Securities, member of the PhillipCapital Group (the Group), as a management trainee in 1998. He joined Phillip Futures in 2002 to develop the futures business and took over as CEO in 2006. Today, he is actively involved in growing the company locally and globally.
He has held a steady helm over the Singapore-based futures brokerage for the last 13 years, despite the changing landscape in the futures and forex trading market and amid the ups and downs in the economy. Backed by a strong conviction that Phillip Futures needs to listen to what customers want in order to stay ahead of competition, he seeks to create value by offering more trading platforms and catering to more diverse client segments. POEMS, Phillip Nova and MetaTrader 5 (MT5) are robust multi-asset trading platforms. Apart from offering zero-commission forex and bullion trading with competitively tight spreads on MT5, the team constantly adds capabilities to the platforms to pre-empt and respond to customers’ needs. In October 2019, customers will be able to trade Contract for Differences (CFDs) on MT5.
Working together with the Phillip Futures team, Mr Teyu also looks inwards to improve its business processes to increase productivity and reduce operational costs, with the aim of adding convenience to clients. For example, Phillip Futures has built online account opening capabilities to make client onboarding process almost instantaneous and adopted online payment systems for a smoother customer experience.
Phillip Futures’ clients include retail individuals, institutional investors, financial institutions, professional traders and physical hedgers. The Group presently holds 27 clearing memberships in exchanges around the world, including Dubai, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the USA. The establishment of these partnerships marks the company’s transformation from a largely Singapore-based company to an Asian firm with a global reach.
Mr Teyu emphasised, “This award belongs to everyone at Phillip Futures. We couldn’t have come this far without a consistently supportive team of colleagues who are hardworking and nimble in execution. Again, I would like to thank the management and staff for their effort and commitment in helping to build and grow Phillip Futures. With a strong team working alongside me, I believe that we will continue to grow further and do better.”
