In 2006, Tesla unveiled their first electric vehicle prototype, the Roadster, which officially went into production in 2008. The company not only managed to build an electric car that was practical for daily usage, it made driving an electric car something cool and not like a college science project. However, at a price tag of US$100K per car, the Roadster was very much a luxury that not many people can afford.
Fast forward to 2021, the top 1 & 2 selling EV models in U.S.A were Tesla’s Model Y and Model 3. If we compared the leading luxury car brands in U.S, which include both electric vehicles (EV) and internal-combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, Tesla earns the number 2 spot, slightly behind BMW. Within a decade since its listing, Tesla had gone from zero production to the world’s leading gold standard when it comes to EVs. After a decade of rapid growth, IEA (International Energy Agency) reported that there are now over 10 million electric cars on the road, but this only represents about 1% of the car market around the world.
